The largest element of the design is the Beam - a 165 metre long and 22 metre wide composite steel and precast concrete frame structure. The main south facade, clad in curtain walling, is shaded by terracotta louvres supported by freestanding galvanized steel posts. Side and rear elevations are clad in pressed zinc panels.
Within this modular space are the Thinktank science museum, the Technology Innovation Centre, and the University of the First Age.
